Everything is fantastic yet starting a new job is always stressful.
Would have never bought this polish color. It was given to me in a gift package. It’s sweet and feminine. Light and fun. Unexpected. Looks sort of like snowflakes, huh?
The color is Antique Brooch. Just wonder if I’ll ever get the tiny glitter flakes off my nails?
It might be the only kinda funny skit they ran on Saturday Night Live last saturday. I’ve found the show’s humor to be a bit desperate in the last few years, but Matt still likes to turn it on out of habit, or that’s the excuse I make for him. Along with the skit making fun of the newly opened building to replace the one we lost to hate filled terrorists, the actors also made fun of people being shocked to find they like a Taylor Swift song. I did giggle.
Well, I had my moment tonight with Paramore. The insanely cute/beautiful red headed singer Hayley Williams is from Meridian, Mississippi, where I lived 5 years working out of college. Her dad owns a custom car sound shop in Meridian. She went to school down there until she made it big and my goodness did she. Before now, her music wasn’t what I typically want to listen to, but tonight I realized “Ain’t It Fun” is by her! WOW It’s so catchy with a sweeter sound than any of her previous songs. I actually love it! I’ve always been impressed with her ability to find a unique voice and fill huge arenas across the world without support from music magazines and blogs. At least the ones I read. All this while appearing to keep a low profile.
Go Mississippi girl!!
You ask most reporters what they enjoy about this job, and I guarantee most will mention the fact that we are always doing something different. I think of it as each day being an opportunity to learn something new or be exposed to something new. It can be subjects, places, things or people.
Today it was a person.
I interviewed Dr. Marla Spivak the Director of the University of Minnesota Bee Lab. Her life has been spent studying bees and their health. Decades ago when her interest in bees took off, she had no idea there would be a point in our existence that her expertise would become a critical matter. My study was about how bees are dying in great numbers. Dr. Spivak says we can all help by providing bees with a more nutricus base. Flowers!! She wants us to plant more flowers. It almost feels surreal to talk about a serious problem that can, at least partially, be solved by adding beauty to the world. She has my vote.
Clearly others find her amazing. She even did a TED talk. It’s had almost 2 million views.
She was one of those unique people living a life completely of her choosing, so it seems. A bit eccentric in a brilliant way. The lab was surrounded by vintage bee/honey kitsch.
It was decorated with preserved/dried bees and scientific bug books. It felt like a creative display in an anthropology store.
Today I feel inspired after spending time there.
My favorite old house to look at is the English cottage. They are cozy. Can be either bright or dark. The wood used is always so rich. They don’t make a grand statement of riches, unless, of course, you own one now and have updated it. I dream of one day having a home with similar qualities. This is Virginia Woolf’s house. As a lover of green this room is awe inspiring.
Domaine Home featured that Kardashian mom on its Instagram account. All the non US Weekly readers reacted. (Including me, unfollowed) I look there for chic design ideas & refreshing photos, not the typical celebrity garbage that feeds off mass insecurity. Insulting. Apparently she has out a cooking book? I didn’t buy Gwyneth’s and I’d never buy hers. I know it’s a business but know your readers .
