Oh Lisboa! Day 1

On 24, May 2014 | No Comments | In Travel | By Lindsey

Oh Lisboa!

That’s the name of our neighborhood restaurant. We aren’t in Lisbon proper. Instead, about 15 minutes in the rural area.

Our home is full of drawings artfully hanging in every inch of the house. The fabrics are bright and beautiful. So far the seafood is amazing.

We just landed this morning and already Camille and I have loved our time and the new friends we’ve met.

I can’t take my eyes off the walls, though. Moving north tomorrow in our scary little car.

Sade ( once again ) :: Fantastic Music Friday

On 23, May 2014 | No Comments | In Music | By Lindsey

Action News 5’s Traffic Tracker Janeen Gordon the other morning told me if she hears Sade one more time she might lose her mind.

sade-adu-beauty-voice-80s-allwhite-kosi-f

I just stared at her. What was she talking about. How cold someone say that? Do I need to stick up for Sade? Has she only heard Smooth Operator? She must know there is so much more.

Then she reminded me that she plays it over and over during her job as a dj at a radio station that mostly plays smooth love songs. If you heard her voice you’d know why she’s perfect for this gig.

Anyhow, this is on my mind because I went on a quick trip yesterday. Landed back in Memphis around 8 pm. As soon as I stepped outside I was knocked out by the humidity and strong fragrance of gardenia. It’s almost summer in the south and that means it’s time to listen to Sade on my porch. No better time of the year. I’ve written several blogs about why I love Sade – about what her music reminds me of ( no it’s nothing naughty ) – so this post will just be to announce – it’s time.

Portugal :: hours away

On 23, May 2014 | No Comments | In Travel | By Lindsey

Our flight is just hours away…
My best friend and I are going to Portugal. We’ll fly into Lisbon and then drive in any direction we like. Well, actually, Camille has it all planned out and I’m so thankful to her. Two years ago we discovered Germany and I can’t wait to hit the ground running again. This time I imagine there will be more wine enjoyed than beer. I hope to see beautiful homes, architecture, landscape, flowers and enjoy amazing food and drink.

This is one of the true joys of life! Adventure!!! Until I leave I’m snuggling with Bridget. I love her so much.

War on Drugs :: Fantastic Music Friday

On 16, May 2014 | No Comments | In Music | By Lindsey

20140516-094134.jpg

The name is definitely memorable. The music is just outstanding.

War on Drugs is a Philly band that a musically inclined friend of mine told me about a couple of years ago. Actually, she first gabbed endlessly about the group’s former partner Kurt Vile. ( for good reason) I first dove into Vile and, as always happens, I wanted everything he had done or anyone who was remotely associated with him. Thanks to that I discovered a band that just keeps putting out good music. In my far from sophisticated music words, War on Drugs has a big song 80’s vibe mixed with the best kind of Americana ( maybe a little Bruce Springstein, at times). Though, you’ll notice what is already a fantastic song from the beginning turns into something quite special a minute or so later. Just really special music.

Lost in the Dream

“Under the Pressure “ from Lost in the Dream
The is one of the prettiest songs I’ve EVER heard. It’s just amazing.

“Suffering” from Lost in the Dream

“Disappearing” from Lost in the Dream
So lovely – just let it go

Feeling the burn….

On 15, May 2014 | No Comments | In Travel | By Lindsey

20140515-095406.jpg

Just minutes before this picture was taken I suffered a horrible burn at the hands of my boyfriend. He was kind enough to help steam my dress (note * next time take dress off) but slipped and held the steam wand up to my dress, which meant it was also against my skin.

We’re talking blister. Oh Lawd. If you see me cringing. This is why.

We were at one of my favorite parties of the year. A spring party in Matt’s hometown in Georgia. These white dinner jackets always make me smile. So old school classy.

Voices – Phantogram :: Fantastic Music Friday

On 18, Apr 2014 | No Comments | In Music | By Lindsey

20140418-062105.jpg

I’m a Phantogram fan.
For me that means – If this electronic group makes music I’m studying it. Their second full length album, “Voices”, is now out ( for 3 months now ).
It’s cleaner and clearly more funds were put in the project. I like it. Their first album “Eyelid Movies” was just awesome. Check it all out.

Here’s the first single from “Voices”

RIP Lenny

On 13, Apr 2014 | No Comments | In Musings | By Lindsey

20140413-175258.jpg

He was just a bird, but I really adored him.

When I got home, I found out Lenny, my parakeet, died while I was at the beach. My friend Karen, who was taking care of my animals, found him. She was very kind to take care of his little body and break the news to me.

You will think I am crazy, but I’m convinced my other bird, Leona, killed him. This is the 2nd bird to die while living with her.

Losing pets is sad, but I just keep telling myself it’s the way of the world and we are both ( Lenny and me ) better for our time together. I know I can be sarcastic at times, but this isn’t one of them. I’m truly sad & disappointed. Spending the night counting my blessings instead. Holding Bridget a little tighter ( and glad Leona can’t get her, too ) Plus, I’m mad at Leona, but have no proof she’s a murderer. Just sad. Lenny was so sweet. He let me hold him. I’d kiss his forehead. Just lots of personality.

Mom and I have been at the beach near Seaside, Fl since Saturday night. We’ve fought some rain and chilly temps, but now it’s just perfect in time for my dad to join us.

Been laughing at this sign in our condo. It’s hanging on the wall and every time I pass it I giggle.

My power went out last night during the spring storm. It was a work night. Let’s just say it made for a stressful morning.

The good news. I’m hitting the beach. Florida with my mamma. No better company. Really. Love my bf, but mammas are special. We aren’t the tanning types, but we do like to lounge, sip & eat, so cheers to relaxing. Got a little swimsuit crazy. There is a third not pictured. Online shopping is too fun.

She has bite…

On 01, Apr 2014 | No Comments | In Musings | By Lindsey

20140401-180051.jpg

Matt didn’t grow up around cats. He’s dating someone who just loves them, especially my cat Bridget, who I’ve had since she was a kitten. It’s been amusing to watch them interact. One time he very gently knocked her off the bed when he thought I wasn’t looking. Don’t worry she got him back. In March I begged him to give her a goodbye hug and she totally flipped out and bit him under the chin. I will say he went about it all wrong. He didn’t guard his face at all. Blood went everywhere. It wasn’t bad – just one of those shallow cuts that bleeds a lot. Still, we were all freaking because of the blood. Plus, I was panicking over the fact that I may have ruined their relationship before it really got to grow. I’m happy to write that when Matt was here this past weekend, both parties seemed to have forgotten about their past brawl. Sad she can’t be as sweet as the birds.
